We're on a mission to bring new and uplifting experiences to our guests, transforming flying from simply 'nice', to something wonderful.
Like any good mission, this one starts with our people.
Which is why we encourage our team to embody the fun, laid back, authentic spirit we've become famous for. Because when they're free to be themselves, they're better able to own their personal responsibilities and go the extra mile to help our guests.
Job OverviewWork type:Full-Time (Permanent)
Location:Brisbane
Job type:Network & Revenue
18 Feb 2025 E. Australia Standard Time
Schedule PlannerWe're the airline that's always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. For us, flying is so much more than simply taking off and landing (although we understand that is quite important). It's about going the extra mile, in the air and on the ground, to create authentic experiences that put our guests firmly at the heart of everything we do.
What you will be doing:
The Schedule Planner role is responsible for driving the development and delivery of both domestic and international flight schedules in collaboration with a wide range of commercial and operational stakeholders. Reporting to the Manager, Schedule Management, you will lead the creation of seasonal and monthly schedules, ensuring they are fully optimised and seamlessly integrated into reservation systems, GDS, and other internal platforms.
Your role will involve developing scheduling scenarios, including budgets and reforecasts, and optimising short- to medium-term schedules to identify network opportunities, enhance connections, and resolve operational constraints. You'll ensure schedules meet on-time performance (OTP) targets and are delivered accurately and on time to internal and external stakeholders.
Additionally, you'll evaluate capacity, timings, and connections (including with partner airlines) to implement tactical changes that optimise monthly schedules while addressing the commercial needs of the business. Maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, you'll provide expert scheduling advice and facilitate agreement on the most effective schedules to implement.
As a leader within the team, you'll also mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Key Responsibilities -
- Meet predetermined deadlines for the delivery of detailed & accurate schedule data to internal and external customers
- Build & maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
- Ensure fleet numbers are allocated correctly for required flying programme including allocation of Operational and Engineering spares
- Distribute key reports for stakeholder review and feedback, communicate changes and act as a specialist advisor on scheduling or slot related matters
- Apply for and manage seasonal/medium term and/or ad-hoc slots at specified airports
- Ensure fleet numbers are allocated correctly for required flying programme including allocation of Operational and Engineering spares
- Effectively integrate the operational spare to meet predicted OTP target
- Provide timely and quality advice to assist the business to arrive at a mutually agreeable position on schedule constraints
- Continually develop and recommend enhancements in processes to improve/streamline work practices
- Mentor and coach Schedule Coordinator(s)
The ideal candidate:
You are an experienced Schedule Planner in the slot and application process for Airline Schedule Planning. You have a high level understanding of the role schedule planning plays in an airline, and a full understanding of the WASG. You are comfortable working under pressure and enjoy working in a team environment. You have strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Your previous leadership/mentoring experience will serve you well as you will position yourself in this team as a trusted advisor and mentor due to your credibility as a subject matter expert.
Experience and skills -
- Minimum 3 years Airline Schedule Planning
- SABRE Schedule or Slot Manager experience (highly desirable)
- Knowledge of the slot application process
- Outstanding organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
- A collaborator and team player
We're committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):
- Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
- One of Brisbane's most admired head office locations, with South Bank train station, a supermarket, pharmacy, and lunch options downstairs plus a 5-minute walk to the Busway, a rooftop restaurant and onsite gym (with a low membership fee) and South Bank Parklands just across the road
