About The Role

The Unit Manager Environmental Compliance Services plays a pivotal role in ensuring the Central Coast meets requirements of legislation relating to health, compliance and regulation. In addition, it will lead the provision of support and systems required to execute legislative and compliance activities that focus on continuous improvement and community expectations.

Reporting directly to the Director of Environment and Planning, you will provide leadership to a team of professionals responsible for the delivery of activities such as building regulation compliance, public health and environmental compliance, community safety and ranger services, community contracts and business support services across Council.

As a key leader in our organisation, you will develop systems to support compliance activities, and foster a culture of customer-first service while ensuring rigorous adherence to legislative requirements.

The position is responsible for a diverse range of environmental compliance challenges in NSW, as well as playing a lead role in emergency management in a high risk location for natural disasters.

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
  • a degree qualification in Environmental Health and/ or Building, OR Environmental Management, Compliance, Regulatory Enforcement, Law or Business Management, combined with extensive solid contemporary experience in a similar role combined with ongoing professional development
  • extensive experience in a similar role working in a large organisation
  • proven success as a leader with the ability to grow and develop teams focused on quality outcomes and a customer focus
  • extensive experience in dealing with complex legislation and practice in a compliance, governance or regulatory framework
  • extensive experience operating at a senior level in working with customers to resolve high priority, sensitive and complex matters, striking the balance between customer service and environmental compliance
  • significant experience working in a highly political environment
  • extensive experience in implementing and developing technologies and systems to improve business processes.
