Salary range $144,058- $146,831

Temporary roles – one for up to 14 months, one for up to 9 months with the possibility of an extension

Supervise, advocate at tribunal / courts, advise on complex cases for disadvantaged clients

About us

Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas of criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

About the team

The Immigration Team sits within the Civil Law Division at Legal Aid NSW. We assist people with visa related matters, including visa applications, merits and judicial review, and visa cancellations, as well as legal issues relating to citizenship and for women on temporary visas experiencing domestic violence. We provide advice, minor assistance and longer representation services to clients. Our team includes solicitors, caseworkers, paralegals and administrative staff. We work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide holistic service delivery to our clients.

About you

You are a committed team members with extensive experience in immigration law, able to conduct an effective and efficient casework practice while supervising solicitors and advocating at tribunals and courts. Applicants must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of immigration law and citizenship, along with proven expertise in delivering legal advice, representation, and advocacy to individuals in immigration and citizenship cases, including tribunal hearings and court proceedings.

You should be able to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and collaborate with relevant stakeholders and service delivery partners.

The essential requirements for this role

You must :

be admitted as a legal practitioner in NSW

be able to provide a current, unrestricted NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us

be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check

hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency(for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
