About Amber
Amber is a new way to buy power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 mins. We then provide the technology to shift energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid and export to the grid at times when the price is highest. It's a cheaper way to buy power and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy. We have thousands of customers who love what we are doing and a great product that will play a significant role in driving Australia towards a renewable future.
We are backed by Australia's leading VCs (including Square Peg Capital and Main Sequence Ventures), impact-focused investors and individuals, and most recently by Commonwealth Bank. We're now at a critical moment in taking the business to real scale as we disrupt a huge market for the better. We're committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world. You'd be a part of a rapidly growing team of over 140 with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations.
About the role
You'll be joining a design team in our rapidly growing Product team, where we are committed to creating innovative energy products and experiences that help support the transition to a 100% renewable energy future.
It's a great time to join Amber, as we continue to grow our Australian customer base, and also start to expand into overseas markets.
We are looking for an experienced Senior UX Designer who will thrive in an autonomous work environment and can deliver high-quality design solutions efficiently. Your expertise will not only enhance the user experience of our products, which are already benefiting tens of thousands of Australians, but will also contribute to our ambitious goal of expanding internationally.
As a Senior UX Designer, you will sit in one of our product streams that make up our broader Product team. Each stream has a unique focus area, and you will be responsible for fulfilling the design needs of the stream, helping shape design and product direction for the stream, working closely with Product Managers and Software Engineers to make sure your stream meets their goals, and delivers an outstanding customer experience.
In this role, you'll:
- Lead design efforts within your product stream, collaborating closely with Product Managers and Software Engineers.
- Uphold and advocate for Amber's overarching design vision and style, ensuring consistency across products.
- Drive user-centric design solutions that align with both customer needs and business goals.
- Collaborate across multiple streams when needed, contributing to a cohesive user experience across all products.
Responsibilities
- Design for Business Impact - Define and implement comprehensive design solutions that align with organizational priorities and drive measurable outcomes. Deliver intuitive, accessible, and scalable solutions that balance customer needs with business objectives.
- User Advocacy - Craft compelling narratives to build empathy and advocate for users, aligning design initiatives with organizational goals to achieve measurable business results. Actively seek and represent user needs, ensuring their voices influence decision-making processes.
- Integrated Team Collaboration - Seamlessly engage with multiple product teams to manage end-to-end design projects, delivering high-quality designs for both mobile and web platforms.
- Collaboration with Engineers and Product Managers - Foster strong relationships with PMs and software engineers to ensure accurate implementation of design specifications. Promote a collaborative environment to enhance product functionality and user experiences.
- Evidence-Based Solutions - Apply design methodologies such as user flow definition, experience mapping, and data synthesis to create actionable insights. Advocate for user and employee needs while connecting solutions to business or brand objectives. Lead UX workshops, presentations, and research sessions, engaging stakeholders in the design process to uncover valuable insights.
- Cross-Platform Design Consistency - Work closely with the broader design team to maintain visual and brand coherence, ensuring a seamless user experience across all digital touchpoints.
- Transparent Design Communication - Openly share design processes and work, balancing advocacy for decisions with receptivity to constructive feedback. Foster team participation and inclusion in the design process.
Benefits
- We're committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world.
- Be part of a growing technology start-up that will shape the future of renewable energy in AU.
- Flexible working hours with provision for regular work from home arrangements and a central hub in Melbourne CBD.
- We offset 100% of your carbon footprint for as long as you work with us (via Nul).
- Equitable gender-neutral parental leave policies.
- An external Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) for mental health support.
- Competitive salary and shares in Amber.
- Annual Learning & Development budget to support your personal growth.
This is a full-time role to be based ideally from Melbourne, but we are also open to considering the right candidate anywhere within Australia.
We are also open to you working 4 days a week, if that's what you are looking for. We do have an office in the Melbourne CBD, where we work flexibly between the office and home. For those based in Sydney, catch up in a co-working space every now and then, and rest of the locations in Australia work from home. We expect to remain Melbourne based but maintain flexibility between the office and WFH.
If this kind of work gets you excited, we'd love to hear from you
Even if you don't meet 100% of the requirements listed above, we still encourage you to apply. We're open to all backgrounds and encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.
Our hiring process will be as below:
- A screening interview with our talent team.
- An initial interview with the Design Lead (Hiring Manager).
- A take-home assignment to work on.
- A follow-up assignment interview with the design and product team.
- A final chat with one of our co-founders and one of the Executive Leadership team members.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and applications will be accepted only from candidates already based in Australia, preferably Melbourne and with full working rights
