The opportunityThe First Assistant Director General (FADG) People is a key member of ASIO's executive team, responsible for providing strategic human resources (HR) leadership and expertise to support the achievement of ASIO's goals and objectives. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of HR strategies, policies, and programs that foster a high-performing, diverse, and inclusive workforce. In this role you will form part of the senior leadership team, where you will work closely with the Director-General and executive to deliver outcomes consistent with the Organisation's practices and values. A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.
Role responsibilities- Providing strategic HR leadership including advice to ASIO's executive team and senior managers on HR-related matters and development and implementation of HR strategies.
- Fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in teams and across the Organisation.
- Leading the development of workforce plans that meet ASIO's current and future needs including the design and implementation of programs to attract, retain, and develop a diverse and high-performing workforce.
- Providing advice and guidance on employee relations, including performance management, misconduct, and conflict resolution.
- The development, implementation and maintenance of HR policies and procedures that comply with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Overseeing the delivery of HR services, including recruitment, employee relations, performance and talent management, and benefits administration.
- Overseeing the Divisional budget and the implementation and effective use of HR systems, technology, and data analytics to provide strategic advice.
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including employees, managers, and external partners to achieve Organisational and broader government objectives.
- Strategic leadership: demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and advice at a senior level.
- HR expertise: extensive knowledge and experience in HR management, including workforce planning, employee relations, and HR policy development.
- Communication and interpersonal skills: excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
- Change management: demonstrated ability to lead and manage change, including the implementation of new HR strategies, policies, and systems.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills: strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Desirable criteria: - A postgraduate qualification in human resources or a related field. - Understanding of the National Intelligence Community.

Employment conditions Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
