The Role

Are you passionate about the environment and eager to make a splash in your career. Mackay Regional Council has an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our team as a Water Treatment Trainee.

As a trainee, you'll embark on a journey to learn the ins and outs of water treatment processes, gaining hands-on experience and valuable skills that will set you up for a successful career in the water industry. You'll be part of a dedicated team of professionals who are committed to ensuring our community has access to clean, safe water while protecting our precious natural resources.

Timeframe

This is a 2-year traineeship. On completion you will obtain a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations.

This is a traineeship and is ideal for school leavers, those new to the industry or seeking a career change. Eligibility criteria apply if you hold existing qualifications in this area.

What You Will Need To Succeed
  • An attention to detail for monitoring and testing water samples.
  • Ability to think analytically to help identify patterns, trends and potential issues.
  • An active planner and problem solver
  • An interest in learning about water testing and their systems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • You're a team player, with the ability to learn from, and grow positive relationships with others.
  • Successful completion of Year 10 is desirable but not required.

Shortlisted applicants must be available for interviews from 22 September – 3 October 2025.

Council is committed to the safety of its employees and requires an immunisation program for identified roles. The successful applicant will be required to attend a post-employment immunisation assessment, by a health practitioner nominated and paid for by the Council.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a pre-employment Medical and Drug and Alcohol test as part of the onboarding process.
