The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking to appoint a Head of Leadership with a passion and ability to develop and implement student, staff and community Leadership programmes. This position will commence in January 2026.
The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years. The School is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and the second largest co-educational boarding school in Australia. It is a leading school in regional Queensland and one of the foremost schools in regional Australia. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 144 years. The School has a total enrolment of over 1,500 (Prep to Year 12) students who are exposed to our broad curriculum, giving effect to our commitment of Grow in Character and Scholarship.

POSITION TITLE : Head of Leadership
DEPARTMENT : Whole of School
REPORTS TO : Head of Department
The Rockhampton Grammar School offers a competitive salary, plus super and benefits. (Note : the pay-scale is reflective of the applicants teaching experience in accordance with the RGS EBA).
The Head of Leadership will be expected to demonstrate on-going excellence in leadership; teaching; administration; professional conduct; relationships with students, parents, teaching and support staff, and the wider school community; and a genuine commitment to young people and their learning.
As the Head of Leadership, you are responsible for all aspects of The Rockhampton Grammar School (RGS) Leadership Programmes for students, staff and the wider community as well as being a mentor to other staff. You will manage the School's technologies, facilities and resources as they relate to these programmes and associated projects. The Head of Leadership will have a 0.6 teaching load.
You will support the Deputy to the Headmaster in the promotion and administration of the Leadership Institute.
In addition to the expected role of all teachers (below), you will :
Communicate a vision for student and staff leadership that aligns with the School's ethos and vision;
Be a curriculum and pedagogy leader with a whole school focus on leadership;
Contribute to, and assist with, the leadership component of the pastoral responsibilities of teachers across the School;
Develop and implement performance measures and indicators for the Leadership programme, and report regularly on outcomes;
Serve as a primary conduit for communication between the School and the School's leadership programme partner, the Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL);
Administer all aspects of RGS Leadership Programmes including budgeting; setting, communicating and meeting school-wide timelines and deadlines; curriculum integration; and reporting requirements;
Manage staff, in relation to their contribution to Leadership Programmes : take part in recruitment, encouragement, appraisal, guidance, provision of feedback, professional development and the exercise of leadership;
Oversee and provide guidance for student-led assemblies, Student Representative Council (SRC) initiatives, and the roles and responsibilities of form captains;
Contribute to the profession, for example pre-service teacher training and publication of articles that promote the innovation and excellence of the RGS leadership programmes and ethos;
Be committed to self-enrichment and professional growth;
Contribute to the wider life of the School.
Teachers are expected to :
Design and implement curriculum programmes that embrace School's Learning Framework;
Create a positive classroom environment that enhances student learning;
Establish and review students' learning goals / outcomes and modify curriculum programmes accordingly;
Continuously reflect on teaching practices and fully participate in the School's Personal Learning Programme;
Build relationships and share teaching insights with colleagues in order to coordinate activities for students;
Communicate with parents about student learning;
Demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to professional development;
Contribute to the School and wider community through involvement in co-curricular activities;
Maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.

REQUIRED SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE
Experience in previous Leadership roles will be highly regarded;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to develop rapport, demonstrate respect and communicate effectively with a diverse range of people both within and external to the School;
A proven ability to coordinate the development of strategic and operational planning processes;
Proven track record in designing and implementing leadership development programmes;
The ability to work collaboratively and enthusiastically within teams;
The ability to work autonomously, determine priorities, initiate improvements, and provide regular feedback and updates on projects and post implementation outcomes;
Experience collaborating with parents, community members, and stakeholders;
Excellent written communication skills, including the capacity to collate material from multiple sources to provide high-quality reports, and presentations;
Understanding of budgeting, resource allocation, and school administration;
High-level information technology skills, including Microsoft Office and a proven ability to utilise contemporary software and programmes;
A proven commitment to professional development;
Highly developed and demonstrated decision-making and analytical skills.
REQUIRED LICENCES / CERTIFICATES
Registered with Queensland College of Teachers (QCT);
SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
The School takes child protection seriously, and as a staff member or volunteer of The Rockhampton Grammar School, you are required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Practice and Behaviour Guidelines. You will receive a copy of these guidelines as part of the induction process.
Therefore, as a part of your duties and responsibilities, you are also required to :
Provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people;
Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people to whom we provide services;
Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe;
Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge;
Act as a positive role model for children and young people;
Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management;
Maintain valid "working with children" documentation;
Undergo periodic "national criminal history record" checks;
Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The successful applicant will be subject to a "Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check" where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks, qualification checks and professional registration checks.
