It's never been a more exciting time to join Navantia Australia, a leading company in Australia's Maritime and Defence industry.
Navantia Australia has been awarded the Designer Support Contract to provide comprehensive design and engineering support to all Navantia-designed ships in service with the Royal Australian Navy. This milestone marks Navantia Australia's first direct contract with the Commonwealth of Australia, highlighting its commitment to innovation and excellence.
Due to ongoing success, we have opportunities for Structural Engineers at all levels to join our team at Garden Island, Sydney, and Darling Park offices. Operating under the Design Support Contractor (DSC) contract, you will deliver structural elements and analyses for naval ships, including:
- Hull structure (plating, primary and secondary members)
- Equipment foundations (major and minor)
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-level engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge
- Completing structural systems design for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering processes
- Performing first principles structural calculations to the required standards
- Performing Finite Element Analysis (using ANSYS software) for complex tasks
- Undertaking technical investigations, root cause analysis, and solution identification
- Delivering technical reports and documentation per Navantia and customer standards
- Collaborating within the broader Navantia Engineering Team across disciplines
- Mentoring graduate structural engineers
- Planning and coordinating engineering projects from concept to delivery, including stakeholder engagement
Ideal candidate qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Naval Architecture, or Aeronautical Engineering
- Proven experience in Structural or Naval Architecture roles
- Experience in a Defence environment
- Understanding of ship structures and steel properties
- Experience with Finite Element Modelling and Analysis (preferably ANSYS)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate autonomously, use initiative, and make sound decisions
- Ability to deliver results under pressure
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills
