Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) at the North Canberra Hospital offers a wide range of experience in O&G with exposure to the subspecialties of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Urogynaecology. North Canberra Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for the ACT and surrounding region with over 1900 births per year.
The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children is the level 6 tertiary referral centre for the ACT and surrounding region with over 3700 births. It has a busy Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with a regional role extending throughout southern NSW and over 200 level 3 admissions each year.
The Senior Registrar role includes supervision of junior trainees and staff and an administrative component, related to Rostering, Education and Clinical Governance.
There is the option for a one or two-year position depending on the individual requirements of trainees and is suitable for 5 th and 6 th year RANZCOG trainees. We provide a commitment to successful applications for the completion of Advanced Training in line with RANZCOG requirements. There are up to five positions available.
The general senior registrar role is suitable for a 5 th year trainee, structured to support the completion of the compulsory RANZCOG Advanced Training Modules (ATMs) with a balance of Obstetrics and Gynaecology over 12 months.
For 6 th year registrars, the position can be clinically tailored to suit the training requirements and career interests of the applicant. Options available include: Advanced Gynaecological Surgery which includes Gynaecological Oncology exposure, Reproductive Endocrinology exposure, Generalist Obstetrics and Gynaecology, an Unaccredited MFM Senior Registrar role, the option to complete a Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU), or a research and education based role.
There is a focus in advanced training to prepare candidates for consultant positions. You will have opportunities for senior registrar-led clinics and theatre lists, and the opportunity to oversee the acute Obstetrics and Gynaecological services in a consultant-level capacity, with adequate support.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology recognises the importance of work life balance and choice related to family planning. We are supportive of part time applicants and Maternity Leave.
There is a strong history of research and audit at The Canberra Hospital and participation in this is expected. Ample opportunities exist for collaborative research with Australian National University, John Curtin School of Medical Research and the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health. Candidates who have progressed into RANZCOG advanced training would be desirable.
These positions will include a variety of roles and in both Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital. The senior registrar positions that will be offered are as follows:
• The Canberra Hospital 12 months
• The Canberra Hospital six months / North Canberra Hospital (Bruce) six months
Prior to commencement, the successful candidates will be required to:
• Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy
