Project Manager Water Infrastructure Planning
4 weeks ago
Play a key role in shaping the future of one of Victoria's fastest-growing regions. This newly created position will see you lead early-stage planning and design for critical infrastructure projects that support sustainable growth, liveability, and water resilience across the Geelong region. Working in a collaborative team and engaging with consultants and stakeholders, you'll help turn strategy into real-world impact.
About the role
This newly created, three-year fixed-term position sits within Barwon Water's Asset Planning team and focuses on delivering strategic infrastructure planning activities to support growth across the Geelong region.
As the Infrastructure Planning Project Manager, you will lead early-stage planning and design activities for water, sewerage and recycled water infrastructure, ensuring projects are scoped, coordinated, and aligned with Barwon Water's strategic objectives. A key aspect of the role involves managing external consultants, facilitating technical discussions, and reviewing reports, concept designs and documentation to progress infrastructure plans through to delivery readiness.
You'll work closely with internal stakeholders across design, operations, and strategic asset teams, as well as external partners including councils, developers, and engineering consultants. With a focus on collaboration and relationship-building, the role contributes directly to Barwon Water's integrated water management and Water Smart Growth goals, helping shape resilient, sustainable outcomes for our growing communities.
About you
You're an organised and forward-thinking project manager with a background in infrastructure, planning, or engineering. You bring experience coordinating multi-stakeholder projects and are confident engaging with both technical and non-technical teams. Your ability to manage consultants, review complex documentation, and maintain project momentum is matched by your strong communication and relationship-building skills.
While experience in the water sector is welcomed, it's not essential, what matters most is your ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, and deliver outcomes in a regulated or government context. You're comfortable navigating ambiguity, keen to learn, and motivated by the opportunity to contribute to sustainable, community-focused infrastructure planning. As this role relies heavily on your expertise in science and engineering, qualifications in these fields will be highly regarded.
About us
Barwon Water is Victoria's largest regional urban water corporation, with more than 110 years' experience in delivering world-class water, sewerage and recycled water services to our customers and community. More than just taps and toilets, we're a pivotal player in the region's ongoing social, economic and environmental prosperity.
We care about where we live and work, and we're always looking for like-minded people to join our team.
Why join us?
At Barwon Water, we believe that every individual has something valuable to offer. We understand that the more diverse workforce, the wider the variety of ideas we bring to the table. Enjoy being part of an organisation that values results, personal and professional growth, workplace diversity and a balance between work and life commitments. Our work requires more than just engineering and scientific solutions. We're learning from the tens of thousands of years of knowledge and insight from Traditional Custodians.
