The Institute in Community Sport & Health strives to be the national leader in innovative solutions to issues of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA) in sport.

Reporting to the Director of the Institute in Community, Sport & Health, the Coordinator of Community Connections is responsible and accountable for developing and delivering deliberate strategies for connecting research to practice and reaching out to and building relationships with knowledge user groups.

The Coordinator will work with the researchers in the Institute to organize equitable and inclusive sport strategies from research findings that can directly impact community sport groups and sporting events, and help put those strategies in action across the sport system while paying particular attention to marginalized sport stakeholders (e.g., participants, coaches, fans). The Coordinator will also connect with the Sport Partnership Collective, the Future of Hockey Lab, and other organizations to leverage partnerships between researchers and organizations to respond to community needs.

The Coordinator will organize leadership training programs for individuals involved in sport programming and events at the grassroots level, including coaching clinics, workshops, seminars, and mentorship initiatives that can empower community leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to take on leadership roles effectively. The Coordinator will work with the Director to find and apply for ongoing funding opportunities, donors, sponsorships and grants for the Institute.

The position is part-time (flexible up to 20 hours most weeks; possibly more during peak times for conferences). Pay is $25,000 for one year, with possibility for renewal.

Candidates should possess the following:

  1. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred – discipline broadly in community, sport, and/or health;
  2. Experience in knowledge mobilization of research;
  3. Demonstrated experience working with partners in sport, wellness, health, active living & recreation;
  4. Knowledge and interest in university and community sport and recreation organizations and activities;
  5. Training in equity, diversity, and inclusion;
  6. Demonstrated experience organizing and running community engagement events, including conferences, clinics, workshops, seminars, etc.;
  7. Understanding and ability to develop funding proposals and seek donors and sponsorships;
  8. Ability to develop an online sharing platform (website creation and maintenance);
  9. Excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills;
  10. Knowledge of the local and regional community would be an asset;
  11. Minimum 1-3 years related experience.
