The opportunity…

The Senior Data and Analytics Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and optimising data warehousing solutions, data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes. This role ensures the reliability, scalability and availability of data to support analytics, reporting, business intelligence and data products. The Senior Data and Analytics Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and secure data solutions and data products, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of three days per week in the Belrose office.

Key Responsibilities:

Data and Analytics Engineering and Operations:

1. Design, develop and maintain data warehousing solutions, including lakehouse, data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, databases and queries, to collect, store and manage data from various sources.
2. Collaborate with the Data Operations Manager, IT Infrastructure and other relevant stakeholders to design and implement robust, scalable and secure data architecture solutions and data integration processes.
3. Monitor and optimise data tools, data integration, data storage and retrieval solutions and processes, ensuring high performance, reliability and scalability.
4. Design, develop and maintain data models, schemas, metadata and databases to deliver scalable and secure data solutions to support analytics, reporting and data products.
5. Collaborate with data scientists, analysts and other relevant stakeholders to understand data requirements.
6. Monitor, modify, optimise and troubleshoot data pipelines, resolve data-related issues and provide ongoing support to analytics and other business teams.
7. Conduct testing and quality assurance.
8. Create and maintain updated comprehensive, user-friendly documentation (for all data engineering and operations processes, requirements, design, testing, user guide, etc.), ensuring clarity and adherence to established workflows and guidelines.
9. Apply best practices and stay abreast of emerging industry trends and technologies in data and analytics.
10. Continuously seek and implement innovative improvements to enhance the efficiency, scalability, performance and reliability of data tools.

Data Governance and Quality Operations:

1. Adhere rigorously to data security and governance policies, frameworks and best practices to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies & practices.
2. Ensure data accuracy, consistency and integrity through robust data quality management practices.
3. Develop and maintain data engineering, operations and governance frameworks and documentation, including data stewardship activities.
4. Develop and maintain data cataloguing and business glossary.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Proactively assist in the resolution of service incidents, conflicts or discrepancies in data by identifying root causes, ensuring timely and effective communication with affected stakeholders.
2. Support the Data and Analytics team colleagues' technical capability development, ensuring a shared understanding of tools and technologies and how these may be leveraged to support the team and business goals.
3. Assign tasks to junior team members, while monitoring output and reviewing work to enable high quality delivery.
4. Assist with onboarding and orientation of new team members where applicable.
5. Promote a culture of collaboration and innovation, ensuring team engagement and alignment of work to the Data & Analytics Strategy and business priorities.
6. Exhibit flexibility to work beyond standard operating hours in response to emergency situations or scheduled system maintenance to ensure uninterrupted operations and the prompt resolution of critical issues.
7. Support the line manager and ad hoc tasks as required.

Experience required:

Essential

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data disciplines, Business, Computer Science or any related field.
2. 7+ years experience in data and analytics engineering activities: design, build, maintain and optimise data warehousing solutions, modern lakehouse and data architecture, data integration, data pipelines, data mapping, data structures, SQL queries and databases.
3. Experience in implementing scalable ETL/ELT processes and modelling data for BI, Data science and Data Product consumption.
4. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL and/or other data querying languages.
5. Working knowledge of cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure, DevOps and Power BI.
6. Experience with Git repos, CI/CD, version control, testing automation.
7. Experience with medallion architecture, data warehousing principles and big data technologies.
8. Experience with digital platforms and Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
9. Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data governance, protection and data privacy regulations.
10. Solid time management skills and ability to work well in cross-functional teams and prioritise tasks.
11. Excellent communication and documentation skills.
12. Quick learner, with high attention to detail, diligence, consistency and accuracy.

1. Knowledge of machine learning, AI, Power Platform.
2. Certification in data management or data governance (e.g., DAMA CDMP, DGSP, CIMP).
3. Experience with business intelligence, data analysis and data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI).
4. Familiarity with project management and Agile methodologies.
5. Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Certification - DP 600.
6. Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Certification - PL 300.
