About The RoleThe Content Specialist shapes Cancer Council NSW's storytelling and brand voice across digital communications and marketing, including website, social media and video. This role blends creative production with strategic communication to ensure our impact is conveyed with clarity, empathy and resonance for diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities- Content creation and editorial leadership: develop and edit compelling written content for newsletters, blogs, social media and campaign materials.
- Oversee content production: coordinate with external vendors (video agencies, freelance copywriters) and internal stakeholders (researchers, program managers) to deliver assets tailored to platforms and audiences; occasional in-house video production.
- Lead editorial reviews with internal and external stakeholders (researchers, subject matter experts, and people with lived experience of cancer).
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities to repurpose and amplify stories across paid, owned and earned channels.
- Apply and uphold brand guidelines and strategy to ensure consistency and clarity across content formats.
- Develop the Community Ambassador (personal story) program in collaboration with the Story Lead, including identifying story opportunities and supporting relationship management.
- Admin, analytics and innovation: provide insights to inform content strategy, planning, implementation and innovation; maintain the content archive; serve as first point of contact for internal content inquiries.
- Provide ad hoc administrative support as required (invoicing, contracts, risk assessments).
- Adhere to internal policies and external legislation (e.g., Privacy Act, PCI Compliance, Charitable Fundraising Act, financial controls).
- Contribute to documentation of internal policies and processes.
- Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications or related experience in digital/content marketing.
- Ability to guide, influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to capture and develop impactful content.
- Strong project management with ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Balance creative and analytical thinking; willingness to innovate and suggest new ideas.
- Experience with or ability to learn video and image editing software, specifically Adobe Premiere Pro and Canva.
- Experience with videography/photography.
- Experience using AI in content, marketing and communications.
- Experience with fundraising channels and tactics.
- Experience in not-for-profit settings or with limited budgets.
