Position InformationMenindee is a remote community in far-western NSW, 110km south-east of Broken Hill. The current population remains at approximately 550. Menindee Central School is a K-12 School with an enrolment of 80 students, with over 75% identifying as Aboriginal. Both students and teachers maintain a positive level of respect and responsibility. This Head Teacher position will require management of staff across KLAs in the secondary school and strong interpersonal skills, with experience in a diverse range of settings, are essential. Through the Connected Communities Strategy, the community has a high level of involvement in the school, supporting ongoing positive relationships for all involved. Connected Communities is a strategy designed to address the educational and social aspirations of Aboriginal children and young people living in a number of complex and diverse communities in NSW. The successful applicant will preferably have demonstrated experience in a similar school setting. A proven ability to build positive relationships with students and families in the classroom setting and through extracurricular activities, as well as demonstrated experience building capacity in colleagues to do the same, is also essential in being able to fulfil this role successfully.
Specific Selection Criteria- Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive relationships across the school community, including Aboriginal students, families, and broader stakeholders, to support inclusive practices and improve student outcomes.
- Proven ability to develop and lead authentic student leadership initiatives that promote cultural inclusion, student voice, responsibility, and agency in shaping a positive school culture.
- Proven capacity to work as a visible, dynamic and collaborative member of the executive team to work effectively with staff on whole school initiatives and drive the implementation of the school's strategic directions, with a strong focus on improving outcomes for all students.
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department\'s Aboriginal education policy
A Relocation Support Payment of $5,000 up to $8,000 will be available for eligible applicants.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
