Introduction:

The Youth Psychosocial Support Package (YPSP) model is a pilot initiative that supports young people who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues with or without alcohol and other drug use, through community-based support services.

As the Youth Worker, you will work with young people in a strength-based, person-centred and trauma-informed way and develop individualised support plans that support their mental health needs and assist them in their recovery journey. You will use your youth work experience to improve their mental health and wellbeing, while maintaining intentional boundaries, in line with the Youth Worker WA Code of Ethics.

We are currently gathering a pool of suitable candidates to draw from. The role will work predominantly outreach within the Perth metro area and some in Rockingham, Monday to Friday, with varied hours depending on the client load and staff availability (ranging from 2 -15 hours per week).

What You Will Bring:

You will bring your passionate and resilient nature and a drive to deliver quality supports to young people. To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Diploma level qualification in Youth Work, Community Services or other related field
  • Experience in delivering youth work or another support role in a community services setting, particularly on outreach
  • Skills in working with young people who have mental health and/or alcohol and other drug issues
  • Ability to provide practical and emotional support in relation to mentoring and informal counselling, development of independent living skills, opportunities to improve social and community participation, learning, volunteering and employment
  • Experience working with young people in a person-centred, trauma-informed, strengths-based, child-safe, youth-friendly, inclusive and evidence-based manner
  • Good interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check and a WA Drivers Licence. You must also have access to a reliable and safe vehicle as you will be expected to drive to see clients across Perth metro (mileage reimbursement will apply).
