Overview

Data Engineering Lead – Databricks & dbt in Sydney (Hybrid). Talent Insights is partnered with a company who are seeking a Data Engineering Lead to take ownership of its modern data stack and lead a talented team of engineers in building scalable, high-performing data solutions. The ideal candidate thrives in architecting data platforms, mentoring teams, and has hands-on experience with Databricks and dbt.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, promoting best practices in coding, testing, and deployment.
  • Design, implement, and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks and dbt.
  • Drive the adoption of modern data practices, ensuring data quality, governance, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, actionable data.
  • Own the technical roadmap for data engineering, aligning initiatives with business goals.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Senior or Lead Data Engineer, with leadership or mentorship experience.
  • Strong expertise in Databricks (PySpark/SQL) and dbt for transformation and modelling.
  • Solid knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with modern data architectures, including lakehouse and streaming solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Passion for driving engineering excellence and fostering a collaborative team culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices and DevOps for data pipelines.
  • Exposure to BI/visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.

Compensation

Base pay range: A$180,000.00/yr - A$210,000.00/yr
