Overview

The Disability Support Worker – Mental Health provides person-centred support to individuals living with psychosocial disabilities and/or mental health conditions. This role focuses on empowering participants to live independently, engage with their communities, and achieve their personal goals in line with their NDIS plan. Trauma-informed care and great communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Provide practical, emotional, and social support to clients with psychosocial disabilities.
  • Assist with daily living activities such as personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, and domestic tasks.
  • Support clients to develop independent living skills and engage in social, recreational, or vocational activities.
  • Assist with implementation of behaviour support strategies and recovery-oriented practices.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation including progress notes and incident reports.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other health professionals.
  • Support participants to exercise choice and control over their lives in alignment with the NDIS Practice Standards.
  • Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for clients at all times.
  • Adhere to organisational policies, the NDIS Code of Conduct, and relevant legislation.
Essential Criteria
  • Certificate III or IV in Disability, Mental Health, Community Services, or a related field.
  • Understanding of mental health conditions, recovery principles, and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Current Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check (or ability to obtain).
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
