Overview

Opal Specialty Packaging is seeking an Estimator and Designer to join the Opal Specialty Packaging team at our Rocklea, QLD site. This is an opportunity to expand your design capabilities while being part of a great team and working environment as we enter the digital print market.

As we're now entering an exciting new era, this role contributes to the success of Opal by designing product packaging and basic graphics for visualisation and concept presentations, as well as products for custom applications.

Responsibilities
  • Designing product packaging and basic graphics for visualisation and concept presentations, as well as products for custom applications.
  • Supporting the creation of product illustrations, concept sketches, diagrams, design specifications and technical drawings (die lines).
  • Evaluating design ideas considering appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
  • Providing day to day quoting support to our sales team members.
  • Contributing and participating in the tender process from initial quoting through to commercial analysis.
  • Improving customer margin by identifying cost savings opportunities on new and existing materials.
  • Being the key contact in project work that requires quoting, costing and onboarding of customers.
Qualifications
  • Packaging design and estimating experience.
  • The ability to articulate and communicate creative ideas via concept sketching or verbal presentations.
  • A good understanding of 3-dimensional form and space.
  • Ability to prepare accurate technical specifications (e.g. die lines) for quotation and manufacturing.
  • Ability to use CAD programs to create models and renderings.
  • Ability to build physical models and prototypes to bring creative concepts to life.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise with good time and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
