What are we looking for?
We're seeking a highly organised and proactive Senior Project Officer to put their project management experience into practice and drive the delivery of the Treaty Authority's strategic priorities and cross-functional projects.
You'll bring strong project management skills, with prior experience in embedding consistent processes and tools that ensure initiatives are delivered on time, collaboratively and with clear accountability. Your ability to track progress, generate meaningful reports and surface insights will be crucial in helping us stay aligned to our annual business plan and support effective decision-making across the organisation.
Essential to the role are your strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, as you'll work closely with the Leadership Group to prepare high-quality reports, briefings and governance materials that support the Members in their work and external engagements.
What you need to succeed:
- Support the delivery of the Treaty Authority's strategic priorities through effective project planning and coordination.
- Ensure projects align with organisational goals and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Lead the implementation of consistent project management practices across the organisation.
- Develop and deliver training in project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Planner) for Members and staff
- Create and maintain project templates, tools and resources to support internal capability.
- Provide strategic oversight and support for critical, cross-functional projects as needed.
- Manage project logistics, timelines, risks and deliverables to ensure successful execution.
- Prepare regular reporting, dashboards (e.g. Power BI) and governance updates to track progress against the business plan.
- Analyse performance data to provide insights for decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to progress reports, case studies and impact assessments for governance and compliance.
- Monitor risks and escalate high-risk issues appropriately in line with protocols.
- Ensure compliance with policies, laws and regulations, including WHS, privacy and governance standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Finance, People & Culture, Engagement) for accurate and timely reporting.
- Prepare briefs and documentation to support Members' governance responsibilities and project sponsorships.
About the Treaty Authority
The Treaty Authority is an independent entity with a mandate to facilitate the formation of treaties between the State of Victoria and First Peoples in Victoria.
The Treaty Authority's work is grounded in Aboriginal culture, lore and law and led collectively by a panel of five First Peoples Members committed to Aboriginal self-determination and empowerment. It engages with a broad cross-section of stakeholders including the State of Victoria, the First Peoples' Assembly and Traditional Owners in Victoria.
The objects of the Treaty Authority's work are to:
- Facilitate the journey towards reconciliation, mutual respect and tolerance between First Peoples and other people of the State and to
- Maintain, promote and advance the self-determination and empowerment, culture and human rights of First Peoples.
What you'll bring
- A deep commitment to progressing Treaty and working respectfully with First Peoples, grounded in cultural understanding and engagement.
- 3+ years' experience in a Project Officer or similar role, ideally within government, not-for-profit, or community settings.
- Relevant qualifications in Project Management, Business or a related field.
- Proven ability to support complex projects and collaborate with senior leaders, boards or CEOs.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Planner, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools
- High levels of professionalism, integrity, empathy and discretion.
- Resilience and the ability to work calmly under pressure while maintaining a strong values alignment with the Treaty Authority's mission.
