Launceston, Tasmania, Australia City of Launceston Full time

The City of Launceston is an award-winning employer of choice, and Tasmania's largest municipal council in terms of population and revenue. The City of Launceston is currently undergoing an exciting period of transformation and development. The Senior Leader Health and Compliance role offers a unique opportunity to bring innovation and a performance mindset to an organisation that plays a vital role in delivering positive outcomes for its residents and stakeholders.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Senior Leader Health and Compliance will provide strategic guidance and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio including environmental health, regulations, building compliance, parking management, immunisations, and administrative services. The role will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Council meets its obligations under various legislation, by-laws, and policies, while maintaining a strong focus on community outcomes.

Reporting to the Executive Leader Delivery & Performance, the role will contribute to broader organisational planning and risk management and will identify opportunities for service improvement and innovation across the Health and Compliance portfolio. In addition to managing day to day service delivery, the provision of expert advice to Councillors, the Executive Leadership Team and the Senior Leadership Team on emerging and ongoing public health, environmental compliance, and regulatory matters will also be a key priority.

The successful candidate will have proven leadership experience, ideally gained within a local government or regulatory setting, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex environments, and deliver impactful outcomes. Outstanding leadership skills with a focus on developing capability and fostering a constructive culture will be critical to the success of the role. The ability to lead and manage change together with the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation is also required.

This is a rewarding leadership role in a supportive and forward-thinking organisation that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health, safety, and wellbeing of the Launceston community.
