Overview / About This OpportunityYou will join UNSW during an exciting and transformative period. This role will play a pivotal part as both an enabler of the current financial control and compliance work and as a driver of opportunities to raise the profile of the function and optimise processes.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage the overall financial control, governance and compliance strategies for UNSW and its controlled entities, supporting all statutory reporting obligations and ensuring accounting transactions comply with Australian Accounting Standards and NSW Treasury guidance; aligned to the Australian equivalent of IFRS.
- Collaborate with assurance functions and broader sector assurance bodies including the Audit Office NSW and NSW Treasury.
- Deliver strategic technical financial advice to senior business leaders and influence policy stances across the sector.
- Lead governance, financial reporting, internal controls, tax compliance, policy development and process optimisation.
- Oversee international tax and consolidation of multiple entities; support responses for ICAC, GIPA, and PID compliance.
- Provide leadership for the financial control and compliance organisation, develop staff capabilities and manage multi-team performance.
- Tertiary qualification and CA or CPA designation with substantial experience managing multi-faceted financial/statutory accounting functions in a large and complex organisation (Higher Education experience not essential).
- Significant experience in planning and management of statutory audits.
- Extensive experience developing and implementing internal financial control frameworks and internal fiscal policies and procedures.
- Experience in developing and implementing systems and processes for local and international tax compliance.
- Analytical and conceptual thinker with ability to diagnose complex business issues and provide practical solutions on a timely basis.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with ability to inform, persuade and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proven ability to develop internal business partnership services delivering high-quality financial support and advisory services to business units.
- Extensive team leadership experience and capability development across multiple teams.
- Knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector (advantage).
