Position Information
The Senior Psychologist, Education coordinates and professionally supervises a team of school counsellors/school psychologists to deliver high quality psychological services to schools. They work closely with schools, other members of educational services teams and agencies to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
The Senior Psychologist, Education provides professional leadership in the delivery of psychological services to school communities and has a key leadership role as part of the networked specialist centres.
Woodberry Public School, part of the Hunter network of schools and Gateway Learning Community, is a community focused school committed to helping all students achieve their potential through the values of respect, commitment and responsibility.
The school has 226 students across 8 mainstream classes and 5 support classes, with 48% of students identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Woodberry Public School maintains close partnerships with government and non-government agencies, including the local AECG, and hosts A School As Community Centre (Woodberry Place of Friends) that supports early childhood and family engagement.
Teaching is grounded in evidence based, explicit teaching and adjustments, ensuring learning is tailored to the needs of students. Student wellbeing and engagement is a priority, supported by a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework and trauma informed practices through the Berry Street Education Model. General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
In Addition To The General Selection Criteria
- High level knowledge and skills in the provision of psychological assessment, counselling and evidence-based interventions within a school context.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead, clinically supervise and professionally develop school counsellors/school psychologists, including those working towards registration as a psychologist.
- Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to support the learning and wellbeing of students, including students with complex and diverse needs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and implement Department of Education priorities and initiatives within the school counselling service and in response to serious incidents
- Be a registered or provisionally registered psychologist, or eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Ability and willingness to travel between worksites.
- This position is under the Teachers award (Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2024). To be eligible to apply, you must have an unconditional, full approval to teach or have eligibility to apply for an approval to teach. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
