Overview

Town Planning Cadet – temporary full-time (up to 24 months) opportunity with Mid-Western Regional Council. The cadet will be mentored by Council employees in the Statutory Planning team while completing their Bachelor's Degree in Town Planning.

Responsibilities
  • Gain hands-on experience across all facets of statutory planning, development assessment, compliance, and policy.
  • Work across urban, rural and environmental planning matters and support the Statutory Planning team in daily activities, including duty inquiries and policy work.
  • Be involved in the practical application of planning theory to real-work situations and contribute to team projects.
  • Participate in Professional Learning and Development opportunities.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in or studying in your penultimate or final year a Bachelor of Planning (or equivalent) at a registered training organisation.
  • General computer literacy including basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and email and internet programs.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to apply planning theory to real-work situations; highly motivated and willing to learn.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Salary and Benefits
  • Salary range: $2,249.80 - $2,460.80 gross per fortnight plus superannuation (annual salary approx. $58,494.80 - $63,980.80 gross plus superannuation), dependent on skills, qualifications and experience.
  • 35 hour week, with an RDO every 4 weeks.

  • Wage while you study; university fees paid by Council for the duration of the cadetship (you are required to pay your course fees).

Mudgee, New South Wales – Contract position (temporary cadetship).
