The Head of Learning Area - English (HoLA) role at Eastern Hills Senior High School (SHS) is a key leadership position that supports the school's vision for academic excellence, staff development, and a culture of care, pride and growth. The ideal applicant is a passionate and knowledgeable educator who can lead a dynamic team of teachers in delivering high-quality, inclusive, and future-focused learning programs aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and the school's strategic direction as outlined in the Eastern Hills SHS Business Plan.
Responsibilities- Foster a strong, positive and professional learning culture within the English department; lead by example; cultivate respectful and supportive relationships with staff and students, and promote a shared commitment to high expectations and continual improvement.
- Use student achievement data to drive decision-making; lead collection, analysis and interpretation of data across the English learning area; inform planning, evaluate program effectiveness, and implement targeted interventions; support staff in developing data literacy.
- Provide curriculum leadership with deep content knowledge and familiarity with the Western Australian Curriculum and SCSA requirements (ATAR, General and VET pathways) to ensure programs are well-sequenced, compliant, inclusive, and responsive to student and community needs; align curriculum delivery with whole-school priorities.
- Oversee the effective functioning of the English department, including assessment and reporting processes, resource management, budgeting, and staff coordination; contribute to whole-school planning, policy implementation and improvement initiatives.
- Be a visible and active member of the school's leadership team, modelling the school's values and leading meaningful change to positively impact the learning experience of all students in the English learning area.
- Demonstrated capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Demonstrated professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students, including Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
- Obtain a valid Working with Children Check before you start.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
