About the Role
Due to growth within our Global Technology Team, Sandfire has a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced Data, Analytics and AI Lead to join our team of talented professionals.
Reporting to the Head of Technology the successful candidate will lead the end-to-end data, analytics, and AI function—setting strategy, building high-trust platforms, and delivering insights and models that move key business metrics.
This role is responsible for setting the vision and strategy for how we collect, manage, and utilise data to drive insights, optimise business performance, and enable intelligent automation.
You will be both a hands-on technical leader and a business-focused strategist who can bridge the gap between complex data science solutions and practical business applications.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Define and own the 12–24-month data, analytics & AI strategy aligned to company goals
Developing and implement the roadmap that delivers the strategy
Establish operating model (intake, prioritization, governance forums, SLAs).
Own the modern data stack (e.g., cloud data warehouse/Lakehouse, ingestion, transformation, orchestration, sematic layer).
Own the data architecture of the modern stack across ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving.
Set standards for data modelling, quality, CI/CD, cost management, and performance.
Establish a reliable self‑service analytics layer (semantic models, governed metrics) and drive adoption.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify automation and optimisation opportunities through AI.
Implement, manage and monitor responsible and ethical AI practices
Build, lead, and mentor a multidisciplinary global team spanning data engineering, data analysis, BI and Artificial Intelligence (approx.
3-5 reporters).
Partner with functional and operations teams to align analytics and AI initiatives with business needs.
Manage vendors and partnerships including contract negotiation.
About you:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
7+ years' experience in data & analytics, business intelligence, and AI/ML with at least 3 years leading teams and developing roadmaps.
Strong knowledge and experience with Azure's modern data framework.
Strong knowledge of data architecture, ETL/ELT processes, semantic models and analytics tools.
Proven experience in running agile teams to deliver a complex portfolio of Data & Analytics products
A passion for mentoring and coaching teams
Strong understanding of current and future AI technologies and trends.
Desirable:
Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL
Excellent stakeholder management, prioritization, and communication skills.
Experience with real time operational data in the mining industry
Knowledge of privacy/security frameworks and responsible-AI toolkits
