This key stewardship role protects the Corporationby ensuring robust governance and control frameworks are in place toeffectively identify and mitigate financial risks.
The role is also responsiblefor ensuring the timely and high-quality discharge of statutory, regulatory,and compliance obligations.
What you'll do: Monitor the financial environment in which Hunter Water operates, incorporating insights into recommended financial strategies, policies, standards, and guidelines to guide appropriate organisational behaviour and decision-making.
Identify and manage financial risks faced by the Corporation, ensuring the maintenance of a robust and effective financial control environment.
Lead the financial accounting and reporting function including the preparation of statutory financial statements and oversight of the external audit process.
Ensure compliance with all financial, accounting, regulatory, legal, and ethical standards.
Maintain a financial reporting system aligned with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements, supported by strong internal controls.
Oversee financial modelling and analysis, including scenario analysis and long-term financial modelling for business plans and regulatory reporting.
Lead and manage Balance Sheet and Cashflow reporting and analysis, including the preparation of monthly reports.
Manage all taxation, payroll and banking obligations including income tax, payroll tax, FBT, GST, payroll and superannuation compliance.
Build collaborative and effective relationships with key external stakeholders including the shareholders' representatives (NSW Treasury) and external audit partner (Audit Office of NSW).
Act as a trusted business partner providing strategic financial insights and advice.
What you'll need to be successful: Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline Professional Accounting Qualification and membership, such as Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA)Extensive experience in financial control/accounting in a corporate or professional environment Substantial leadership experience of an accounting/finance department or team Detailed understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, taxation, the Corporation's Act and other relevant regulatory standards Well-developed business/commercial acumen with a focus on customer service Master degree in accounting, business or finance Experience working in a State-Owned Corporation or other Government organisation Experience working in regulated business environment Application Steps: To be considered for this position applicants must submit a cover letteraddressing the Selection Criteria above and provide a current resume.
