Department of Transport and Main Roads Join the 2026 TMR Graduate ProgramPut that degree to work As a Graduate Civil Engineer at TMR, you will help plan, design, build, operate, and maintain transport infrastructure across Queensland.
You'll support major projects such as the Cape York Peninsula Development Road subprogram, Rockhampton Ring Road, Bruce Highway upgrades, Coomera Connector, and Gold Coast Light Rail.
Additionally, you'll engage in routine maintenance, road safety initiatives, and managing key transport routes.
Throughout this program, you will develop expertise in civil, structural, rail, geotechnical, pavement, or transportation engineering.
Important information for Engineering graduates: Engineering qualifications must be 4-Year Washington Accord accredited or have undergone assessment through Engineers Australia.
Key responsibilities may include: Assist in delivering the Queensland Transport Infrastructure Program (QTRIP) and managing investments of up to $1.4 B per year.
Participate in routine maintenance, rehabilitation, and resurfacing programs.
Support contract management and collaborate with TMR's Road Tek branch on delivery and emergency response.
Contribute to traffic management initiatives, including signal optimization, congestion mitigation, and intelligent transport systems (ITS).
Engage in research, project planning, stakeholder management, and technical documentation.
Support project team resource management to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of initiatives.
Specialisations and development: Opportunities to specialise in areas like road safety, asset management, geotechnical, hydrology, traffic engineering, and ITS.
Rotational development plan over 18–24 months, including planning, design, project delivery, maintenance, governance, and safety management.
Includes mentoring, job shadowing, site visits, and formal training aligned with TMR's On Q project management framework.
Available roles: Brisbane: 4 roles Bundaberg: 1 role Cairns: 1 role Nerang (Gold Coast): 1 role Mackay: 2 roles SEQ West (Roma, Toowoomba, Warwick): 1 role Toowoomba: 1 role Technical skills and qualifications: Bachelor of Civil Engineering (4-year Washington Accord) completed within the last 3 years, or Bachelor of Civil Engineering (4-year Washington Accord) and relevant postgraduate qualification completed within the last 12 months, or If your degree was completed at a university not part of the Washington Accord, you must provide evidence from Engineers Australia that your skills meet the standard.
