AUSTRAC's in-house Legal team supports the agency in its regulatory, intelligence, and corporate functions, providing advice on a broad range of legal issues, including: Legal advice on enforcement matters and litigation Statutory interpretation Administrative law Privacy, commercial, contract, property, and employment law The role reports to a Senior Lawyer within the Legal team.
There are three distinct streams within the Legal team: Guidance & Reform Regulation, Enforcement & Litigation The Legal team values flexibility and fluidity in legal work allocation across streams.

Legal Qualification (Mandatory): Admission to the role of an Australian State or Territory Supreme Court or the High Court of Australia.
Must hold, or be eligible to hold, a practising certificate in your jurisdiction.
Legal Experience: Minimum of 2+ years post-admission experience, with skills in areas such as statutory interpretation, administrative law, civil litigation, regulatory compliance, privacy, and contract law.
Apply Expertise: Demonstrates high capability in applying technical skills, consulting appropriately, and providing sound advice.
Key Duties Under broad supervision, responsibilities include: Providing legal advice on regulatory, administrative law, and governance issues Contributing to AML/CTF policy, law reform, and guidance development Delivering legal training to AUSTRAC staff Supporting privacy and FOI functions, including privacy impact assessments Supporting enforcement functions and managing partner agency requests Serving as a Customer Relationship Manager within the agency Eligibility Must be an Australian citizen Undergo AUSTRAC's pre-engagement checks Obtain and maintain an ongoing Baseline Security Clearance Affirmative Measures This vacancy is also advertised under Affirmative Measures.
