The Role: Automation Controls Technician We are seeking a skilled and proactive Automation Controls Technician to join our team.
This role involves regular travel across Australia and occasional international assignments to support, install, commission, and service advanced automation and robotic systems at client sites.
You'll be working on high-performance systems such as robotic sample preparation units, automated material handling equipment, and industrial control platforms in mining and heavy industry environments.
This position is ideal for someone with strong automation and controls experience who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys hands-on technical work, and is comfortable working independently in remote and industrial settings.
Key Responsibilities Install, commission, and service automation and control systems at client sites.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues across PLCs, HMIs, sensors, actuators, and industrial networks.
Perform diagnostics and maintenance on control panels and instrumentation.
Provide handover training and technical support to site personnel.
Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and system upgrades.
Complete service documentation, risk assessments, and technical reports.
Collaborate with internal engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues.
Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site procedures.
What You'll Bring Essential: Full Australian working rights.
Current C-class driver's license and own transport.
Field service experience in industrial automation or mining sectors.
Trade qualification or equivalent experience in electrical, instrumentation, or automation disciplines.
Strong fault-finding and hands-on servicing skills.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly , including to remote and industrial sites.
Basic IT skills – ERP systems, Share Point, MS Office.
Desirable: Experience with PLCs (e.g.
Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron), SCADA, and industrial communication protocols.
Familiarity with robotic systems and motion control.
