About the team
The Womens Mental Health Service team consists of 2 full-time psychiatry Registrars, 5 consultant psychiatrists, 2 consultation-liaison mental health clinicians and several clinical psychologists.
It provides a comprehensive Psychiatry consultation-liaison service, and outpatient perinatal and gynaecology service as well as a Womens Alcohol and Drug Service (addiction in pregnancy) service.
There is ongoing teaching and mentoring for HMOs wanting experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry, perinatal and womens mental health and psychotherapy.
There will be opportunity for observing antenatal psychology groups and following up cases for short-term interventions.
About the role.
The Psychiatry HMO will contribute to the provision of an effective and efficient consultation liaison psychiatry service to meet the needs of women who are inpatients or outpatients of Royal Women's Hospital who have mental health problems.
RHMOs undertake a range of learning opportunities in clinical and teaching aspects of Women's Mental Health.
A regular day will see you:
Provide a consultation-liaison perinatal service to women with mental health problems who are inpatients or outpatients of the Women's, supported and supervised by your supervising consultant e.g.
assessment and management of antenatal and postnatal patients, gynaecology, oncology and other women's health patients, and involvement with NICU families
Work with other staff/units of RWH and provide advice, consultation and support to assist in the care of women with mental health problems.
About you
We are ideally looking for at least a 2nd year HMO who can work as part of an MDT, and under supervisory support from their consultant.
The consultation-liaison setting requires good interpersonal skills and ability to de-escalate patients as well as contain staff anxieties round challenging patients.
You'll bring with you:
Registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Have at least 18 months experience working as a junior doctor in a public teaching hospital
Preferably have worked in emergency setting e.g.
emergency department.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently (with supervision)
