As an Automation Engineer within our Automation Engineering team, you'll play a key role in creating highly functional, efficient, and intelligent machinery – used in food and beverage operations across Australia and the world.
Job Description From developing code and designing control systems, to supporting customers onsite and identifying improvement opportunities – this role offers variety, ownership, and the chance to shape best-practice automation from end to end.
What you'll be doing: Own the automation lifecycle: Design, develop, implement, and test automation systems for HMPS Propac machinery – from electrical and controls integration through to software deployment and commissioning.
Solve complex challenges: Use your problem-solving skills and technical expertise to troubleshoot automation issues, working closely with customers and internal teams to deliver timely, high-quality solutions.
Collaborate across teams: Work with design and project engineers, fitters, service technicians, and stakeholders to ensure systems are delivered on time, on spec, and within budget.
Keep quality high and risk low: Ensure all solutions meet relevant safety, regulatory, and company standards.
Maintain clear, accurate technical documentation and contribute to continuous improvement.
Stay sharp and share knowledge: Keep up with industry trends and support internal teams with training, support, and mentoring when required.
Support out-of-hours needs: Be part of our automation support roster, offering remote assistance to customers when needed.
What you'll bring: Degree in Engineering and 5+ years' relevant industry experience Experience delivering automation projects in a packaging or manufacturing environment Proven skills in PLC/HMI development and programming Programming for Rockwell and ABB is essential.
Solid understanding of control systems, software, electrical schematics, and safety integration Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills Commitment to high standards of quality, compliance, and documentation Experience with customer commissioning and field support is highly desirable Familiarity with relevant standards, including ISO and WHS requirements At HMPS Propac, Australia's leading machine manufacturers, we are passionate about delivering innovative end-of-line packaging automation.
