The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Haematology.
The Blood Transplant and Cell Therapies (BTCT) Program at Westmead Hospital is the largest transplant and cellular therapy centre in NSW with highly developed clinical and laboratory research interests.
It consists of a clinical service that undertakes autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants and administers immune effector & CAR-T cells using the BTCT & Sydney Cellular Therapy (SCTL) laboratories to support the process of blood transplantation and cell therapies at Westmead Hospital, the Children's Hospital at Westmead, Nepean Hospital and Wollongong Hospital.
The BTCT clinical service receives referrals from within the Western Sydney & Nepean/Blue Mountains LHDs as well as patients from the Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra regions and interstate referrals.
The program performs over 100 transplants per year with the majority being allogeneic stem cell transplants from sibling, unrelated, haploidentical or occasional cord blood donors and the remaining being autologous transplants.
The Cellular Therapy service is one of two NSW designated immune effector cell administration sites and administers commercial CAR T-cells & antigen-specific IEC therapies.
The service undertakes approximately 100 cellular infusions for a wide variety of therapeutic and research indications.
The BTCT & SCTL laboratories are the most active transplant & cellular therapy processing laboratories in NSW and undertake 500-600 processing procedures annually including complex cell manipulations such as CD34 selection.
In addition to stem cell processing, the laboratory has a highly active cellular therapeutics arm involved in the production of pathogen and tumour specific T cells.
Westmead Hospital is at the forefront of translational clinical research into the use of pathogen and tumour specific immune effector cell therapeutics, and has multiple active investigator initiated and pharmaceutical sponsored clinic trials in the field.
Successful applicants will deliver all aspects of clinical care for patients undergoing blood transplant and immune effector cell therapies as inpatients or outpatients at Westmead Hospital, including participating in Haematology department on call rosters under the supervision of the Blood Transplant and Cellular Therapies (BTCT) Director, the clinical lead for immune effector cell therapies or their delegates with professional accountability to the Director of Clinical Haematology, Director Cancer Services and the General Manager Westmead Hospital.
Applicants must have successfully completed fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and have specialist AHPRA registration.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within six months, may be considered.
If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
The position will be for the 2026 Clinical year, a period of 12 months commencing 2 February 2026 until 31 January 2027 Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.

In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience: 1.
Possess or be eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award 2.
Possess sound clinical knowledge in haematology, blood transplant and cell therapies demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position 3.
Have demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including: · High level interpersonal and communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
· Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
· Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision 4.
Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

Up to date knowledge of cellular therapies including blood transplantation and CAR T cell administration for haematological malignancy and Up to date knowledge of stem cell transplantation as a cellular therapy with some clinical experience in the care of patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplant 6.
Awareness and understanding of complications of blood transplant and CAR T cell therapies and their treatments 7.
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team spanning clinical, diagnostic and cell therapy laboratory 8.
Willingness to participate in clinical and laboratory quality systems relevant to blood transplant, CAR T cells and other cellular therapies Working With Children Check Applicants must provide evidence of a Working with Children Check issued by the Office of Communities Commission for Children and Young People.
