Excellent communication skills are essential for liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
The Support Practitioner provides high-level support to children, young people, foster and kinship carers, and families, primarily of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
You will be an integral part of the Children, Youth and Families group, supporting activities aligned with the organisation's mission and values.
Key responsibilities Screening, intake, and placement processes for children and young people with foster and kinship care families.
Utilize assessment, crisis, and short-term intervention skills; report issues to management.
Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and care arrangements to meet individual needs.
Deliver evidence-based parenting programs and collaborate with community agencies.
Coordinate recruitment and support for carers.
Generate assessment reports and facilitate foster care approval processes.
Manage case planning and support integration of joint case management; maintain accurate records.
Provide direct in-home and flexible support services, including after-hours and on-call support; negotiate intervention plans and provide referrals.
Work sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to provide culturally inclusive services and achieve sustainable outcomes.
About you You are passionate about children's welfare and have excellent rapport-building skills.
You thrive on daily interactions and communicate well with diverse stakeholders.
Your qualifications should include: A degree in social work, psychology, social sciences, or related discipline, or equivalent experience (minimum Certificate III Community Services).
At least one year of experience working with children, young people, and families in child protection or community services.
Knowledge of child protection and out-of-home care frameworks, including the Child Protection Act 1999.
Ability to complete assessments for care.
Experience working with First Nations people.
Understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and Child Protection Act 1999.
Knowledge of child development and trauma theory.
A current driver's license – P2 minimum.
