Our dedicated team of healthcare professionals provide compassionate care and advanced diagnostic services.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Anatomical Pathologist to join our Perinatal and Paediatric Pathology Team and contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional care to our paediatric, neonatal and obstetrics patients.
Our team provide services for community and hospital referrals, working closely with clinical colleagues and meet regularly for MDTs and MM meetings.
Some of our pathologists are actively involved in teaching at the University of Newcastle and some are actively involved in research.
Continuing education is supported with a generous continuing professional development allowance.
You will be working in a supportive and innovative environment with a focus on patient-centred care.
Both junior and more experienced Perinatal/Paediatric pathologists are encouraged to apply.
Proven keen interest in Perinatal and Paediatric pathology is highly advantageous.
What You'll Be Doing The Staff Specialist will provide high quality diagnostic, consultative, procedural and on-call specialty services in Anatomical Pathology, and will participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities commensurate with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and, where required, the encouragement of an academic environment which supports research and development.
The Staff Specialist will provide high quality diagnostic, consultative, procedural and on-call specialty services in Anatomical Pathology, and will participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities commensurate with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and, where required, the encouragement of an academic environment which supports research and development.
The primary duties of the Staff Specialist will be performing perinatal autopsies as well as reporting surgical specimens from paediatric patients.
Perinatal autopsies will include fetuses, stillborn infants and neonates with their placentas.
The Staff Specialist will provide accurate and detailed reports with insight into potential causes of complications during pregnancy and/or birth.
Paediatric surgical specimens include but not limited to neoplasm, infection, inflammatory and genetic disorders.
The Staff Specialist will also participate in some of the adult pathology specialties such as GIT, breast and non-melanoma skin.
The Staff Specialist will collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, paediatric teams including surgical, medical and oncology to provide comprehensive diagnostic support.
The Staff Specialist will participate in educational, training and quality assurance programs and activities.
Selection Criteria Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Anatomical Pathology, and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Applicants expected to receive Fellowship by August 2025 are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated commitment to basic, applied or clinical research and/or medical education and staff training.
Proven ability to work as a team member with effective communication, interpersonal skills and adaptability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development.
Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management, continuous improvement and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
Demonstrated contemporary clinical knowledge and technical expertise within the specialty of Anatomical Pathology.
Demonstrated experience and/or satisfactory and proven training in Perinatal and Paediatric specialties.
