About The Team The Cancer Information and Support Services Division (CISS) aims to empower and support people affected by cancer, so that no-one faces cancer alone.
Role This role sits within the Practical Support unit, reporting to the Manager, Practical Support Services.
This team provides support to people affected by cancer, ensuring practical needs are met throughout their cancer trajectory.
The services offered include: Financial support in the form financial capability work, financial grants to assist with everyday expenses, financial counselling and pro bono financial planning.
Legal and workplace support with issues arising from a cancer diagnosis, treatment or caring responsibilities.
Practical support such as accommodation and transport services during cancer treatment, and financial assistance to pay for cleaning and gardening services.
About The Role The key purpose of the Team Leader, Financial Support Services, is to oversee the day-to-day delivery of CCNSW's Financial Support Services.
This role is also responsible for leading a team of Financial Counsellors and Financial Capability Workers to provide holistic telephone-based information and support to empower people affected by cancer to make informed financial decisions to alleviate and prevent financial hardship.
CCNSW's have undergone significant strategic review over the last 2 years to ensure we are delivering efficient and sustainable services that prevent and alleviate financial hardship for people affected by cancer.
As a result, a new Financial Navigation Service was introduced in September 2024 to improve service triage and provide tailored financial information, resources and navigation to services based on clients' needs.
This role will be integral in ensuring the continued review and optimisation of the delivery of this service.
This is a full-time 12-month contract based in our Woolloomooloo office.
Part-time applicants will be considered, at a minimum of 4 days per week.
The role will commence from September onwards, depending on the availability of the successful applicant.
Key Responsibilities Of The Role Lead a team of Financial Counsellors and Financial Capability Workers, creating a collaborative and supportive work environment that promotes employee growth, engagement, and satisfaction.
Provide supervision and ongoing learning and career development for Financial Counsellors and Financial Capability Workers (internally referred to as 'Financial Navigators').
Oversee and contribute to the day-to-day delivery of Financial Support Services, including: Financial Navigation Service: providing information and resources on financial rights and options, and triage into intensive financial support services.
Financial Counselling Service: guidance and advocacy with debt management and budgeting.
Financial Assistance Service: temporary grants towards bills and everyday expenses.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, develop strategies to improve the overall client experience, and improve the efficiency of the Financial Support Services, including introducing new policies, streamlining processes, and optimising use of technology systems.
Act as the escalation point for complex stakeholder and technical issues, including clients with high distress or complex needs, ensuring prompt resolution, maintaining a high level of stakeholder satisfaction and escalating issues to management where required.
Build, maintain and oversee strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective delivery of financial counselling and capability services, including relationships with peak industry bodies and other community services.
Be a subject matter expert for the Financial Support Services, increasing awareness and understanding of these services both within and external to CCNSW, including promoting the services through in-servicing, presenting at relevant conferences, participating in media opportunities as well as contributing to financial advocacy work.
Support the Lead, Legal & Financial Support Services and Manager, Practical Support Services with strategic, operational, reporting, and budgetary plans of Financial Support Services.
Essential About you Accredited Financial Counsellor with at least 3-5 years' experience in the financial counselling industry.
Experience leading, managing, and mentoring financial counsellors and/or financial capability workers to deliver high quality financial support to clients.
Excellent understanding of the financial counselling industry in NSW and demonstrated networks within the industry.
Experience and competency overseeing and providing complex and challenging financial counselling support to clients.
Demonstrated relationship management, presentation, and networking skills.
Experience developing and embedding policies and procedures, including experience implementing technology and process changes.
Strong technological skills with experience working in case management systems.
High level written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Desirable Accreditation/qualification in financial counselling supervision and mentorship.
An understanding of the needs of people affected by cancer and the oncological health setting.
Experience in a not-for-profit or community-based organisation.
