Base pay range A$93,875.00/yr - A$99,907.00/yr Shape the built environment and ensure safe, sustainable and compliant buildings across the City About the Role The City of Canning take pride in our dedication to maintaining the integrity of our built environment.
As a qualified Building Surveyor (Level 1, 2, or 3), you will ensure the safety, compliance, and sustainability of buildings within our community.
You will be responsible for conducting inspections, providing advice, and upholding standards in building regulations.
Reporting to the Coordinator Building Services, you will assess and process building applications and permits according to legislation, codes, policies and schemes, and ensure determinations are made efficiently and in accordance with statutory and City established timeframes.
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for a skilled and experienced individual.
If you want to be part of a thriving City and great culture, we'd love to hear from youA snapshot of the role: Process building applications and permits within established timeframes, ensuring all relevant information is obtained from internal and external stakeholders Administer the provisions of legislation and codes, including the Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012, Building Code of Australia, Residential Design Codes and other local laws and policies Undertake inspections of building work at key stages to ensure compliance with approved plans and regulations Provide advice to property owners, builders and other stakeholders regarding building regulations, safety and compliance issues Investigate and respond to complaints and concerns related to building safety and code violations About You Current registration as a Level 1, 2 or 3 Building Surveyor with the Building Commission of WAHigh level knowledge of the Building Code of Australia, Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012 and relevant Australian Standards Proven knowledge and experience in assessing building approvals and permits as a Building Surveyor Experience interpreting and applying the Residential Planning Codes (R-Codes)Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write reports and compliance documents Able to work effectively independently and as part of a team, demonstrating teamwork and comradery Satisfactory National Police Clearance (under six months)Why you'll love working at the CityA full-time permanent position in a welcoming and thriving local councilWork-life balance with a standard monthly rostered day off, or ability to access a 9-Day fortnight$93,875.47 - $99,907.61 per annum + super (with a 4% increase to base salary in July 2025)17.5% paid Annual Leave Loading for when you take annual leave We match super contributions to help you save for your future Discounted health insurance, free flu vaccinations, skins checks and other well-being events Genuine commitment to Learning & Development opportunities Free confidential Employee Assistance Program for personal and professional support Membership to Cannington and Riverton Leisureplexes (gym, aquatics, sauna, group fitness).
