This role willfocus on modernizing and modularizing our mobile codebase.
You'll lead critical refactoring efforts, improve engineering practices, implement shift-left testing strategies, and help evolve the mobile apps.
Responsibilities Refactor and modernise the Android codebase to support scalable, modular architecture and align with evolving engineering standards Develop and maintain high-quality, native Android features using Kotlin, following clean architecture and modern design patterns (MVVM, Jetpack).
Implement robust unit and integration tests to ensure reliability and enable shift-left testing practices.
Optimise performance, maintainability, and codebase cleanliness ensuring legacy code is improved and technical debt is addressed proactively.
Collaborate with the platform and enabling teams to define and roll out new engineering practices across Android projects.
Drive adoption of modern Android development practices including modularisation, coroutines, dependency injection, and Jetpack libraries.
Monitor and debug app performance using tools like New Relic and Crashlytics, and continuously improve code quality via Sonar Qube.
Work closely with designers and product owners to bring intuitive, pixel-perfect UI to life using Figma assets.
Contribute to our Android roadmap, helping shape Medibanks future as a digital-first destination for members.
Guide junior developers and peers through code reviews and technical discussions, fostering a culture of learning and engineering excellence.
Essential requirements Strong experience in native Android development with Kotlin.
Solid understanding of object-oriented design and MVVM architecture.
Confidence working with complex UI, networking, and threading.
Familiarity with Android Jetpack (View Model, Live Data, Navigation), Coroutines, Dagger, Rx Java.
A passion for clean code, testing, refactoring, and leaving things better than you found them.
A strong sense of ownership and pride in delivering high-quality work.
A collaborative mindset you love working with cross-functional teams and sharing knowledge.
