About the Role We have a compelling opportunity for a senior governance / risk / compliance lawyer seeking to move in-house into our General Counsel and Risk Department, ideally based in our Sydney office but may be based in any of our other Australian offices in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane.
The role will report directly to our General Counsel & Company Secretary and act as her 2 IC in the legal function.
The Legal Risk & Compliance Manager will work as part of the global team and will be responsible for supporting the GC & Co Sec in providing a range of legal and compliance services to Dentons and its lawyers.
The main features of this role will see you oversee Dentons' responses to claims and complaints, manage Dentons' business acceptance processes including conflicts clearance, and manage a team of 5.
One of your first priorities would be overseeing Dentons' response to the forthcoming AML legislation, so experience in AML/CTF would be an advantage that would allow you to hit the ground running.
You will also provide training for all staff on risk issues and provide advice in relation to Dentons' contractual arrangements.
About You This role would suit someone with experience as a conflicts lawyer or within a law firm Office of General Counsel, or a senior lawyer with relevant corporate, commercial, litigation and/or compliance or company secretarial experience who has worked in a professional services environment and has excellent research and analytical skills.
Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, an ability to anticipate risks and develop solutions and a high level of attention to detail will help you succeed in this role.
A wonderful and dedicated team of 5 would report to you so it is critical that you can demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship skills in your experience of managing people.
