We are currently recruiting for an Environmental Technician who will report directly into the Environmental Superintendent - Operations, this role is being offered on an 8:6 roster and as a 14 month contract, to commence in June 2024.

This position is responsible for conducting environmental monitoring required at facilities operated by Newmont Boddington Gold. Assist and support the Environment Superintendent Operations (ESO) in development, implementation and monitoring of the procedures and system required to safely operate a large complex open pit gold mine, processing and port facilities. Good environmental performance demonstrates Newmont's social licence to operate philosophy and ensures that relationship with other stakeholders (Newmont, Contractors, suppliers, Consultants, Government, Land councils etc) are maintained through active, open and honest communication/consultation.

The role:

  • Conduct all monitoring requirements in accordance with NBG Licence to Operate and NBG Water Monitoring Schedule to achieve 100 % compliance as set by ESO and Environment Advisor, Exploration and Monitoring;
  • Maximising the efficiency of water monitoring practices with respect to procedures, labour and cost, whilst maintaining high standards and reliability of data;
  • Ensure all sampling equipments are in good conditions, free contamination, maintained to a high standards and regular maintenance is conducted;
  • Ensuring water monitoring areas are maintained in a safe condition;
  • Conducting field work and associated studies(such as noise and vibration monitoring, assist Wildlife and Black Cockatoo monitoring, Air Quality Monitoring Stations and others);
  • Completion of weed management activities as directed by the ESO and EA's
  • Maintain and update the regional environment data management system (Monitor Pro). Current databases are Environment (for water & Soils), Blasting, Air Quality and waste;
  • Ensure all relevant water quality and quantity data is imported into the Environment Monitor
  • Displaying environmental awareness and reporting incidents or hazards that are detrimental to the environment
  • Champion environmental performance on site.

About you:

  • Secondary Education Qualification or Cert III on Conservation and Land Management
  • A minimum 1 – 3 years relevant experience preferred
  • Ability to work as part of team or alone
  • Knowledge and experience with computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs)
  • Ability to be flexible in approach and work routines
  • Ability to operate efficiently to a schedule with safety foremost in mind
  • Able to develop effective rapport with all levels of the workforce
  • Well organised and able to consistently meet agreed deadlines
  • Experience and understanding of basic laboratory skills
  • Knowledge and experience with relevant Australian Standards, Mining and Environmental legislations
