Overview:
Federal government department looking for a Payroll Officer to join their team, responsible for the accurate and timely administration of payroll for the Department and shared services clients. You will perform a range of payroll processing functions and provide advice on payroll-related matters, working independently and as part of a team under general direction.

Key Duties:
- Payroll Processing: Perform general payroll functions to establish and maintain accurate staff records using SAP.
- Entitlement Assessment: Evaluate entitlements and conditions of service against eligibility criteria per legislation, policy, and enterprise agreements.
- Advisory Role: Provide advice and respond to enquiries regarding entitlements and conditions of service.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain appropriate records and file documents in line with record management protocols.
- Process Improvement: Contribute ideas to improve procedures in the work area.
- Payment Investigations: Investigate and calculate salary overpayments and underpayments, arrange recovery of minor overpayments, or refer as necessary.
- Legislative Knowledge: Keep up-to-date with payroll-related legislation, policy, and enterprise agreements.
- Escalation: Prepare and escalate pay processing tasks requiring senior officer action or delegate approval.
- System Testing: Assist with User Acceptance Testing for system enhancements and updates.

Job Capabilities:
- Legislative Interpretation: Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and enterprise agreements.
- Independent & Team Work: Capable of working independently and as part of a team to deliver quality payroll services.
- Judgement & Problem-Solving: Use good judgement and problem-solving skills.
- Time Management: Effectively prioritise work and manage time to meet deadlines.

- Discretion & Judgement: Personal qualities of tact, discretion, and sound judgement.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office is essential.
