Athletics Australia has a critical role in leading, fostering and encouraging participation in athletics in Australia and promoting excellence in performance.

Heading towards the 2024 Paris Olympics & Paralympics, and the 2032 Brisbane Olympics & Paralympics, it is an exciting time to join our High-Performance team and Athletics Australia is currently seeking to recruit an Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement (AW&E) Coordinator.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our High-Performance department, with the role focusing on supporting elite athletes as they navigate high performance programs, empowering them to find a balance between wellbeing, engagement in activities outside of training and competition, and the requirements of elite sport. The role of the AW&E Coordinator is to enable holistic athlete development to support athletes to navigate key transitions throughout their time in High Performance Sport.

Your core duties will include;

  • Implementation of the AA Wellbeing Strategy
  • Providing individualised case management for elite athletes
  • To build ethical, empathetic, and respectful relationships
  • Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Provide support to athletes throughout their High Performance journey.

What we are looking for;

We are looking for a self-motivated person who demonstrates a passion for wellbeing and skilled in fostering positive relationships, demonstrate uncompromising standards of respectful and ethical behaviour, and ensure procedural transparency. Who can build trust and rapport quickly and effectively and have confidence and experience dealing with others on subjects of a sensitive nature.

Ideally you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications that would support the achievement of the role outcomes and key accountabilities.
  • Strong understanding of the Australian sport system, in particular proven experience working in a multi-disciplinary High-Performance environment.
  • Demonstrated high level experience guiding and supporting people through various transitions.
  • Training or experience in mental health, careers, or teaching.
  • Ability to operate with integrity and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
  • A keen commitment to clean sport and abiding by AA's National Integrity Framework suite of policies including the Australian National Anti-doping Policy, Safeguarding Children and Young Persons Policy, and Code of Conduct.
  • Hold and maintain a valid Working with Children Check and (or ability to hold) Police Check.
