About our team

Essendon FC, also known as "The Bombers", is a well-established sports team in the Australian Football League. Overseeing various programs for both men and women, including AFL and VFL teams, as well as a wheelchair football team, we go beyond just playing the game. Our mission extends to not only winning championships but also giving back to our dedicated members and the community. Emphasizing the positive impact we have on social causes, we work diligently to ensure our partnerships and initiatives, such as The Long Walk and indigenous programs, make a meaningful difference. Through strong commercial relationships and innovative projects like the Essendon Education Academy, we strive to host top-notch events, support our fans, engage in community activities, and ultimately, pursue our next championship victory.

We are looking to fill two key positions for our 2024 AFLW season coaching panel: AFLW Assistant Coach and AFLW Development Coach.

AFLW Assistant Coach

Under the guidance of the AFLW Senior Coach, you will be part of a collaborative football department. As an AFLW Assistant Coach, your role involves providing coaching, communication with stakeholders, and creating a supportive learning environment for the players. Your responsibilities include:

  • Offering coaching and developmental support to the AFLW players.
  • Assisting the Senior Coach and implementing team strategies.
  • Conducting training sessions and supporting match day requirements.
  • Providing feedback to players on their performance and progress.
  • Working closely with individuals to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Coordinating with the medical and performance team for player readiness.
  • Building strong communication and trust within the football department.
  • Prioritizing player well-being and addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Leading by example and upholding the team values consistently.

AFLW Development Coach

In this role, reporting to the AFLW Senior Coach, you will focus on nurturing the talent and skills of the AFLW athletes within our Club. Your duties include assessing player strengths, designing development strategies, implementing training programs, and enhancing technical and tactical knowledge through various sessions.

  • Collaborate with players to identify areas for improvement.
  • Create tailored development strategies to boost player progression.
  • Design innovative training programs to enhance fundamental skills.
  • Use simulations to facilitate skill acquisition in game-like scenarios.
  • Enhance players' understanding of technical and tactical aspects of the game.
  • Contribute to the training program alignment with the team's playing style.
