Key Responsibilities

Technical Excellence

  • Lead by example in software development, contributing to the Java codebase and maintaining technical excellence.
  • Collaborate with engineers to review, optimise, and maintain critical code components.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies to drive technical innovation within the team.
  • Define and execute the engineering team's delivery strategy, ensuring initiatives are completed on time and within scope.
  • Implement agile methodologies to improve efficiency and delivery predictability.
  • Monitor initiative progress and take proactive measures to mitigate risks and overcome obstacles.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards and best practices to maintain high code quality and security.
  • Implement code review processes to identify and address quality issues early in the development lifecycle.
  • Continuously assess and improve the quality of software products through automated testing and other quality assurance practices.

Team Leadership and Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Lead a team of 5 highly skilled engineers, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members to help them grow and excel in their roles.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment where team members feel motivated and engaged.
  • Lead the development and execution of the engineering team's strategic initiatives, aligning them with the company's long-term goals.
  • Identify emerging technologies and trends that can drive innovation and competitive advantage.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and accountability within the engineering team.
  • Set clear objectives, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with overall business goals.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between technical and business objectives.
  • Act as a liaison between the engineering team and the broader tech community, participating in conferences, meetups, and knowledge sharing events.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 6+ years proven experience in Java software development, with a deep understanding of best practices and code quality.
  • Prior experience in a leadership role, managing and developing engineering teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to balance technical and leadership responsibilities effectively.
  • Passionate about leadership, collaboration and innovation.
