About the Role

We are seeking a forward thinking and talented individual to take on the key role of Manager Engineering across the Copper South Australia (CuSA) Major Projects Portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing professional to work with a range of senior stakeholders where your contribution will have significant impact on the business.

The role preferably based in Adelaide and reporting directly into the Program Director Engineering and Quality Minerals Australia, PCoE, the Manager will sit on the CuSA Major Project Lead Team and be held responsible for engineering performance and outcomes across all phases and projects within the portfolio. The role will provide leadership to a highly skilled and diverse engineering team, consisting of Project and Discipline Engineers, focused on all aspects of engineering through project framing, development and execution of plans, assurance over process and outcomes and integration into construction and handover. In addition, as part of the Engineering and Quality Lead Team you will identify and influence strategic initiatives to drive productivity and cultural improvements across MAP and support your engineering colleagues globally.

The Manager will be the key driver for improved engineering performance and effectiveness from our Owner's Team and Engineering Service Providers and be integral in the management of the regional Engineering Services Panel. As a leading contributor and key advisor, you will deliver on your accountabilities with an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility, and sustainable development.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Development of the project engineering management strategy, plans, standards, processes, and systems for capital projects to ensure optimum delivery across the portfolio.
  • Fulfil the role of regional Engineering Services Panel representative.
  • Responsible to the Study/Project Manager to ensure that integrated project scope, cost, schedule, value and risk requirements are met.
  • Facilitates the evaluation and selection of engineering service providers within the project portfolio.
  • Leads performance management of engineering service providers at a portfolio level, including drive for engineering effectiveness and capital efficiency.
  • Manages resource availability of project engineering personnel to provide:
    • Support during engineering design development and detailed engineering.
    • In field support during execution and handover.
    • Engineering change management during development and delivery.
  • Respectfully and professionally, influence stakeholders to drive optimised outcomes.
  • Collaborates with Study / Project Manager, Discipline Engineering, Quality, Commissioning and Operational Readiness to ensure that engineering is developed and executed in accordance with identified methodologies, strategies and systems.
  • Ensures creation of an environment in which internal lessons learned and external best practices are part of the operational processes and manages the measurement and continuous improvement of performance, recommending any changes required to identify capital efficiency initiatives and productivity improvements.
  • Identifies talent and capability and provides input to broader talent plans to enable development of a high performing team.

About You

You will have 15 + years' experience with tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a trade qualification with relevant experience in Project Management. With previous experience in a similar senior role you will have managed and developed teams and be confident in working within a complex environment. Leadership role within a major project (>$1B) is highly desirable.

As an experienced professional with a passion for guiding, developing and influencing teams and individual team members through mentoring and coaching you will bring strong leadership abilities with a demonstrated ability to lead a team that delivers high performance.
