The Australian Province and the Sevenhill Cellars Board are searching for an experienced individual in the wine industry to lead the Sevenhill Cellars wine ministry in the Clare Valley of South Australia. This role requires exceptional leadership skills and solid business acumen to drive this renowned wine operation forward amidst the refinement and implementation of a strategic plan.SEVENHILL CELLARS: In the Australian Clare Valley wine region, Sevenhill Cellars stands as the sole Jesuit winery globally, boasting rich history and a strong reputation in tourism. The winery produces sacramental and table wines for consumption in Australia and selected international markets, managing vineyards and crafting award-winning wines distributed across Australia, including through its cellar door.THE AUSTRALIAN PROVINCE: Rooted in the legacy of St Ignatius Loyola over 480 years ago, the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) is a Catholic religious order. The Australian arm, with more than 90 Jesuits, collaborates with over 1,800 individuals who share the Ignatian vision of service and justice across 30 ministries.THE ROLE: The General Manager will serve as a crucial resource, aiding the Sevenhill Board in decision-making and ensuring sound governance. The ideal candidate will possess robust commercial acumen, extensive sales experience, a collaborative approach, and strong interpersonal skills.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Professionally steering Sevenhill Cellars in alignment with the Board's guidance and statutory requirements to fulfill the Jesuit Mission.
  • Executing and continually evaluating the nine-year strategic plan to uphold Sevenhill Cellars' sustainability.
  • Managing financial performance, risk, and compliance, emphasizing WHS, Food Safety, and environmental standards, while monitoring cash flow and cost controls.
  • Safeguarding the Jesuit heritage and reputation by leveraging the history at Sevenhill.
  • Formulating strategic initiatives and partnerships with key stakeholders nationally and globally.
  • Providing timely and accurate reports to the Board.
  • Supervising the Management Team and operations encompassing vineyard, winery, cellar door, bottling, distribution, and sales.
