The Role:

As the Senior Legal Counsel, you will take a leading role in supporting the Legal Services and Insurance Manager, proactively applying legal risk management and building effective relationships with all stakeholders. You will also assist the Legal Services and Insurance Manager with day-to-day management of Sunwater's insurance portfolio.

You will provide strategic, high quality, solutions-focussed legal advice, with the agility to navigate, apply and manage:

  • Federal and State regulatory compliance frameworks applicable to Sunwater, including (but not limited to) Queensland Procurement Policy and associated frameworks, Right to Information, Privacy and Information Privacy, Human Rights, Whistleblower and Public Interest Disclosures, Modern Slavery;
  • Corporate governance including Board and Committee requirements;
  • Dam safety legislation and policy;
  • Workplace health and safety including public safety;
  • Security of Critical Infrastructure requirements;
  • Commercial arrangements and contracts (new and existing); and
  • Sunwater's Legal Team's precedent documents portfolio.

About you:

We are seeking an experienced professional admitted as a solicitor or barrister in QLD with an unrestricted practising certificate. You will have demonstrated technical skills in relevant Federal and State governance and regulatory frameworks and management of legal precedent documents. You will have analytical and conceptual thinking skills and the ability to communicate with influence.

In addition, you will have:-

  • At least 5 years post admission experience in a relevant field within any top tier or recognised mid-tier Australian practice, or in-house legal position.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and deliver quality outcomes in accordance with agreed timeframes and within cost.
  • Significant experience working independently, autonomously and proactively to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • High-level communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
