Community Corrections Officers effectively manage offenders, using evidence-based practices, to reduce offending behaviour and the impact of crime on individuals and the community.

About the role:

  • Works within a team, in a culturally diverse environment, while maintaining responsibility for its own case load
  • Works with offenders in the community in a case management role to assist in breaking the cycle of offending
  • Completes prerelease planning with offenders in a custodial environment
  • Uses interviewing techniques to assist offenders to change their behaviour and challenge their attitudes
  • Develops, implements and monitors long and short term goals and strategies with offenders
  • Uses various methods to monitor offenders' compliance, such as drug testing and electronic monitoring
  • Prepares reports to Courts, State Parole Authority and other bodies, that provide clear and accurate information
  • Builds and maintains a working relationship with external agencies and works collaboratively with other departments to assist offenders
  • Promotes behaviour change through discussion and positive role modelling
  • Conducts home visits to offenders' homes
  • Cofacilitates offender programs

A Community Corrections Officer role in our Sydney City office located in the Central Sydney area, will provide you a unique opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients and support them in change that results in positive impacts for the client, their families and our community.

You will develop skills working with a diverse and complex range of clients. The workplace is near public transport hubs in central Sydney with close access to vibrant cafes.

What do I need?

  • Communication and engagement skills and skills transferable to case management
  • Experience writing concisely and in plain English in formal documents
  • Commitment to growing Aboriginal cultural competence
  • Ability to work in a team or independently
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Current valid driver's licence

You must also pass pre-employment checks that include:

  • National criminal history check including fingerprint checks
