We currently have a terrific opportunity for a Team Leader Drainage & Signs to join our Infrastructure Maintenance operations team.


About this Role


City Presentation's Team Leader Drainage and Signage Maintenance is a critical role within Infrastructure Maintenance operations, with the primary challenge of combining proactive maintenance activities and being responsive to servicing our community's needs in periods of inclement weather.

Working hours will be from 7:00AM - 4:00PM with 9-day fortnight. Workdays will be starting and concluding at Latrobe City Council's depot at Morwell.

The position objectives include:

  • To regularly monitor expenditure and work within defined budgets, reporting any actual or anticipated variances to management.
  • Ensuring the team are competent and supported in theory, methods, work practices and safety, including the safe operation of equipment.
  • Identify the costs of activities performed by the work unit to assist with the preparation of annual budget submissions (Capital and Operating).
  • Ensure that all staff and contractors under direction comply with all OHS legislation, plans, policies and practices, and that safe working practices are enforced at all times.
  • Positively promote the development and continuous improvement of maintenance, operational and safety processes within the team and other related teams.
  • Keep written and electronic records of work as required, submit reports as requested and process daily work records. This shall include directly using Council's Customer Request tracking system which may be office based and/or mobile computing systems.
  • Regularly monitor performance of the team against objectives.
  • Prepare, monitor and adjust weekly work plans so that the necessary tasks are carried out to program and to required standards, and revise where required by management.

The role will have direct responsibility for the following:

  • Development and implementation of the annual urban underground storm water drainage/pit inspection and cleaning program which meets Council's agreed levels of service.
  • Liaise with peers to implement a program for the flushing of rural road culverts which have been identified as silted and not functioning effectively.
  • Inspect all outfall drains, flood gates and penstocks to ensure that they are functioning properly particularly prior to weather events.
  • Investigate pit and piped drain maintenance requests promptly and arrange for the timely and effective maintenance or repair as required.
  • Be available to respond to drainage emergencies, including piped drain blockages and flooding during major rain events. This will sometimes include the requirement to work beyond the normal spread of hours.
  • Manage Council's signage maintenance, both reactive and planned, including installation of new signs as directed.
  • Ensure signs maintenance is carried out in accordance with Council's Road Asset Management Plan and relevant Australian Standards and Regulations.
This position leads a Team of five full time maintenance staff plus regular contractor support.
