About the role
AUSTRAC's Regulatory Operations Branch leads AUSTRAC's supervision, risk and insights and regulatory capability functions. We oversee the compliance of more than 17,000 Australian businesses against their obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act).

AUSTRAC's Enforcement team under the Legal and Enforcement Branch investigates serious and/or systemic non-compliance with the AML/CTF Act and takes formal enforcement action in response to identified breaches. Enforcement action can include civil penalty proceedings, infringement notices and administrative actions such as remedial directions requiring entities to take specified action to ensure compliance. In criminal investigations, it includes making referrals to and supporting the Director of Public Prosecutors.

We are seeking applications from a diverse range of experienced individuals to fill numerous vacancies over the next 18 months, including:
- APS6 Specialist, Regulatory Supervision
- APS6 Specialist, Risk and Insights
- APS6 Specialist, Enforcement

• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, such as AUSTRAC management, regulated entities, partner agencies and other government agencies.

• Have responsibility for the supervision of Regulatory Operations staff including responsibility for staff performance and development, where relevant.

• Assist Branch leadership with the improvement of systems and procedures that enhance the efficiency and transparency of operational activity.

• Provide expert advice and interpretation within technical or professional area, including preparing relevant strategic advice where appropriate.

• Contribute to executive briefings, staff messages, speeches and correspondence.

Enforcement

• Triaging and investigating serious non-compliance with the AML/CTF Act.

• Conducting detailed analysis of complex data sets to identify issues of concern and/or to gather evidence relating to breaches of the AML/CTF Act and applying that analysis to making recommendations about the nature and extent of any non-compliance.

• Developing strategies for responding to serious compliance issues, and assisting with the execution of those strategies (which may include formal enforcement action).

• Contributing to multi-disciplinary teams and problem-solving exercises relating to difficult regulatory challenges.

• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including AUSTRAC management, reporting entities, partner agencies and other parts of government.

• Supporting the conduct of civil penalty proceedings.
