The Company
For over a decade, Licella have been pioneering the field of hydrothermal liquefaction – the next-generation of advanced recycling. Licella's breakthrough Cat-HTR platform unlocks a low-carbon circular economy from what others consider to be waste. Their world-leading HTL technology creates renewable biocrude oil from a wide range of biomass, enabling the production of high-value, low-carbon products, such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), that reduce our reliance on fossil resources.
With over A$120M invested in the patented Cat-HTR platform, Licella partner with other industry leaders who share their vision for a more sustainable future. With a Commercial Demonstration Facility on the NSW Central Coast, and commercial facilities in both the UK and Canada in final stages of construction and commissioning, this is an exciting time on the company's 16 year journey from technology development to commercialisation.

The Role
The Executive General Manager role has been created to optimise alignment with the revised focus on biomass and a refreshed 2-year strategy. The position will bring a strong focus on overseeing business development activities across the Pacific Rim and Australasia, in support of the global deployment of Licella's pioneering technology.
A key element of this dynamic senior leadership role will be the development of the organisational capability and capacity (and structures) alongside HR. This will support the successful completion of a detailed feasibility study to enable a 'Final Investment Decision' (FID) for a first-of-a-kind biomass to biofuel project in Queensland, principally focused on the burgeoning Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) market.
In addition, this role will oversee other value-added activities including identifying new feedstocks and regional development opportunities, as well as establishing and managing key strategic relationships with key project stakeholders. These include offtake, logistics, licensing, project funding and identifying new site locations, in support of building compelling business cases for numerous current and near-term regional biomass to biofuels projects across ANZ and Asia.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive ANZ biomass business strategies, including business cases for various specific biomass projects to final investment decision, commencing in Queensland but expanding across ANZ and Asia regions.
- Develop highly impactful regionally based strategic alliances with key stakeholders e.g., regional / project feedstock producers and aggregators, product offtake partners, state, and federal governments etc.
- Build meaningful indigenous communities' relationships across ANZ.
- Build strong regional government relations with a view to optimising accessible funding in support of identified regional projects.
- Work seamlessly with peers to enable and successfully execute regional strategy.
About You
With commercial experience, ideally C-suite level or equivalent, your passion for the bioeconomy, future fuels and circular economy principles has given you significant exposure to these markets, as well as project development and structuring. You are strategic, proactive, and adept at fostering partnerships across sectors. A natural leader, you inspire teams and drive innovation and with sharp financial skills, you can navigate project economics while advancing Licella's mission.
You are enthusiastic about addressing evolving biofuels challenges and are committed to positive change, seeking a meaningful opportunity to leave a lasting impact.
Required Skills and Proficiencies
- Experience working with companies transitioning from start-up project development to commercially focused project deployment.
- Substantial experience in leading various detailed feasibility projects through to favourable FID outcomes.
- Experience in leading teams through processes of setting direction, motivation, delegation and monitoring performance.
- Demonstrated success in engaging effectively with federal, state and local governments re. project funding, conversant with funding landscape in region, alongside appropriate policy advocacy.
- Experience of overseeing successful delivery of energy / biomass-based projects in commercial settings, ideally in Australasia and Asia, while not essential, this experience would be highly advantageous.
